Poppy’s Ride

*** UPDATE***

| Today the boys have finished their LEJOG ride successfully at John O’Groats, Scotland, they have endured hellish weather but continued plugging on to reach their target, so far the figure raised is £7055.35 from 314 donations (Thursday 4th October, 20.15) a brilliant feat of endurance and a great figure – I think you all deserve a beer. Don’t forget you can still donate here and you can read all about their journey here. I wonder if we can help them crack £10k before they arrive back in Kendal on Saturday? |

Poppy’s Ride is set to take place over 12 days in September, it consists of a group of friends all out to raise as much money as possible for Leeds Children’s hospital by cycling around 960 miles from Lands End to John O’Groats. It is also important to point out that the trip is entirely funded by the riders, including all equipment and accommodation so every penny pledged will go towards helping the children.

Poppy was born on the 29th May 2011 and it was soon discovered that she was very poorly. A tumour was diagnosed and following her birth in Barrow she was stabilised and transferred to Manchester and then on to Leeds – Rather than copy the text from Poppy’s page please visit THIS LINK and you can read Poppy’s story.

Many readers of this blog will know that Rachel and I have experienced the care given by childrens’s doctors and nurses so it was my absolute pleasure to help out and give something back, I can say though and did say to Bamber and Sophie that I just cannot comprehend how tough it must have been for them.

As I know quite of few of the riders I pledged my services to create some images for use in raising the profile of the challenge that is before them and also for the hospitals own magazine, again focussed on raising as much money as possible. While discussing what I was doing with a good friend and film-maker Ben Barden, he also decided to pledge his assistance as again he knows some of the riders well and was touched with what they are trying to achieve.

So on a stormy August afternoon we gathered beneath thundery skies in the shadows of the English Lake District and took the photographs, followed by some filming by Ben. You can see a couple of the images below and also the fantastic short film by Ben, shot on the awesome Sony FS700.

As I write this blog post at 12.47 on the 6th August 2012 the stats are as follows: 129 donations, £2975.00 raised………………………………………..annnnnnnd GO to the Just Giving page. You can also like Poppy’s Facebook page:)
